Pennants Wrap Round Five

Half-way through 2024 Pennant season and the Canberra Bowling Club Cobras 🐍 have two divisional teams flying and two on the precipice of getting the mix right 💫

The Super 6s broke their drought with a 59-52 (10-2) win over Goulburn 💥 at the Snakepit 🐍. Led by solid rink wins on the underrated Harry Hepburn rink (+16 shots) and Chris ‘mighty’ Moore rink (+10] were enough to grab the extra 6 points. Yes ⭐️🏋🏼‍♂️.

The 5s made it a double-win at the Snakepit accounting for Canberra Norths 75-59 (11-1). The ‘Uber’ O’Brien rink once again led the way a 13 shot win, while the ‘TJ’ Jarvie rink also got over the line. Road-trip to Goulburn next week for the all-conquering 5s 🐍

The struggles continue for the 2s who went down to Tuggeranong 46-57 (2-10) on their relatively new artificial surface. All-star veteran skip Charles Smith’s rink led the way getting up by 13, but the inconsistency trend continued, losing both other rinks to the home side.

Finally, the 1s went out west to the Creek and came home with all 12 points with a solid 68-56 win, winning each rink by 3, 4 & 5 shots respectively 🤙. That, my dear readers, is a first-class team performance 🤩. The ‘magician’ Sargeant and ‘wizard’ Smith rinks continued their winning form while the third rink – changing by the week – was this week skipped to victory by the ultimate pro, ‘whispering’ Wes Falconer 😍.

Solid week Cobras. Half-way through the season and the 1s find themselves on top with a 10pnt margin to second; the 2s are in 6th 8 pnts from 4th; the 5s – you gueesed it – flying on top by 15pnts to second; the 6s remain in 6th but only 7pnts from 4th and improving each week.=

Meanwhile in the Bowls ACT Pairs

We are getting to the pointy end now and we’re proud that a few Cobras remain in the hunt 🤩
In the Women’s Pairs, unfortunately Mina Bannerman and Lois Waters bowed out on Saturday in the Semi-final 😔, going down valiantly in a high-scoring match 22-26 to the Belconnen team. Well done ladies making it to the Semi in a competitive field 👏
In the Men’s Pairs, it’s game on 😳. Our remaining Cobras 🐍 both won their two matches on Saturday comfortably to run into the Semi-finals this Saturday at QRSLM. Henry Lawson and the wizard 🧙, Jamie Smith, overcame top shelf opposition to advance to the semis and take on the Stinger pairing of McAlister and Robertson. The other semi will pit Cobra superstar Matt Sargeant and his partner Ian Whybrow up against the Creek duo of Bielski and Monfries. The magician Sargeant breezed through both games on Saturday without raising a sweat 😪I guess having the first-rate Lead in ‘YB’ helps immensely.

Action starts at QRSLM 930 this Saturday. C’mon Cobras 🐍, get a quiver down there and support the lads 🙏
